Standpipe Systems- Firefighting in the air
A history of the original purpose and use of standpipe systems and how they became adapted for firefighting. A demonstration as to how standpipe systems for firefighting evolved through the years and the changes necessitated in their development. A review of the installation, calculation, testing and application of the various types of standpipe systems. A discussion of the various types and classes of standpipes and the arguments both for and against each.

Fire Service Mains- From Wood to Water
A history of the evolution and development of water mains in general, to include Fire Service Mains in particular. In addition, a review of the general rules for installation of mains, including soil types, depth of burial, restraint and calculation of losses, and protection of piping. There will also be a discussion of the various appurtenances associated with Fire Service Mains to include, hydrants, hose houses and their required equipment, and acceptance testing. In addition, a discussion on the misunderstandings of 5 year testing of underground fire mains.
